This kid made $2,000 off my mistake
Hey there,
2 months ago, I was building a free tool for app founders.
I had this amazing idea, told my dev team and we spent a few days building it.
Then we started testing it for weeks until I filmed a YouTube video about it.
In the video I was explaining what the free tool can do:
You can find viral ads from all over the world and get inspiration.
Kinda like FB ads library but in a cool 2026 version.
Halfway through the video I showed the name of it “Viral Ads Library” - I didn’t even say it outloud.
It was just visible on the screen.
And that’s where the problem began…
What I didn't do before hitting record was buy the domain.
Yes, I totally forgot to buy the domain for my new tool.
By the time the video was live for 24 hours, someone else snatched it from me.
Not just one version.
He bought both .com variations, ViralAdLibrary and ViralAdsLibrary, within hours of the video going up.
Then he wanted $3,000 for each domain.
I sat in my office in disbelief.
$6k for such a stupid mistake - hell nah.
After going back and forth he sold me both for $2,000.
$2,000 for two domains that should have cost $20 total.
That's the tax I paid for talking before executing the full plan.
Most founders make a version of this mistake every week.
Not with domains, but with ideas they announce before validating or features they promise before shipping.
$2,000 sucks but the tool is live now and already helping to generate revenue.
If you want to build apps that print, here's where to start.
Peace,
Steven
