Your app idea is worthless

Hey there,

People always ask me: "What if someone steals my idea?"

My answer: Your idea is worth $0.

Your idea already exists. Someone else has thought of it. Someone else has probably even built it.

But that doesn't matter.

Because ideas don't make money. Execution does.

Anyone can build an app with AI tools. You can go from sketch to MVP in days.

The barrier to building has never been lower.

So what separates winners from losers?

Marketing.

Can you get it in front of people? Can you turn downloads into revenue?

That's the hard part.

A mediocre app with great marketing will always beat a great app with no marketing.

Look at Duolingo. Is it the best language learning app in the world? Probably not.

But it prints $700M/year because they're the best at marketing.

They dominate TikTok with a mascot and viral content. The app is fine. The marketing is world-class.

Most founders do the opposite.

They spend 6 months perfecting the app. They add 10 features and obsess over design.

Then they launch and nobody cares.

Because they didn't think about marketing first.

If you can't get attention, your app dies. It doesn't matter how good it is.

If nobody sees it, it's worthless.

Your job isn't protecting your idea. It's making people care about it.

Peace,
Steven
